Crisis Evolution 2 – Metamorphosis

Sneak Peak at First Scene

OK, I am DYING to share something from my new book! I have decided on a subtitle: Metamorphosis! I have the description I’ll be using for websites all hashed out. My chapters will be longer, and this time, they each have names! Fancy!

I’ll post the description, and then I’ll post the first scene. Please keep in mind: This is the first draft. The first scene of the final draft may be different. Enjoy!

Description for Crisis Evolution 2: Metamorphosis

Alex and his crew of survivors have wandered the forests of Earth for weeks with seemingly no end in sight. On the brink of starvation, they come across two very powerful twins who have an unusual ability. Being brought to a new corridor – known as the Indestructible Corridor – gives Alex and his team a new lease on life and a fresh start, but things are not always as they seem. Is this new corridor really indestructible? Can its Lythian leader be trusted? Meanwhile, they are met with the arrival of a Lythian scientist who claims he knows how to stop the Illians from controlling the humans, but is his “cure” everything that he says it is? As our heroes navigate this new terrain, they will come face to face with old foes, new foes, and an interesting twist in the evolution of their powers.

First scene of Chapter One – The New Beginning

Six weeks. For six arduous weeks, Andraste wandered the dense and dry forest alone. Her stomach felt hollow, and there were times she thought it might cave in on her. The trees and grass surrounding her faded in and out of awareness as the slow wobble she strived to maintain became more and more burdensome. Her feet became heavier with each step she took. Her heart fluttered in her chest, and her muscles tightened as she tried to inch forward just a bit further. As she lifted her foot, it felt as though thousand-pound weights were attached to it, and she finally collapsed to the ground on her hands and knees. She stared down at the cold, unforgiving earth, and she wept.

“I’m so hungry,” she wailed grasping at her mid-section. “I would give anything for something, anything to eat.”

It had been several days since she happened upon an injured squirrel that suffered a broken leg. She charred it alive with a flame bursting from her palm, and she cut the animal in half, making a feast of its innards. However, the forest had been barren of life for days. She found the lack of wildlife in the area both disheartening and peculiar. The muscles in her arms and legs went from stiff to numb, as she raised her hand in an attempt to crawl one more inch. She trembled, her limbs shook beneath her, and instead of inching forward, her body gave way and toppled over instead. She rolled over on her back, lying motionless in the grass as she drifted in and out of consciousness.

“Please……something……anything,” she whimpered.

Dark specks filled her vision when she suddenly heard the sound of a man’s voice.

“Being out in the woods like this sucks balls, man. I’m fucking starving.”

“Yeah, me too. Where the hell are the animals? It’s like they’ve all disappeared.”

“Hey! Do you see that?”

Andraste heard the sounds of grass crunching underneath their footsteps. The sounds got faster and louder. She could barely see through the cloud of dark spots impeding her vision, but she was sure that two strange men were now hovering over her nearly lifeless body.

“She’s still alive.”

“Yeah, she is. She’s hot as fuck too.”

“Man, come on.”

“Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve had any pussy? It’s been months. Fuck, I don’t even remember the last time. I think I’ve earned it.”

“What if she fully wakes up?”

“Don’t worry,” he said as razor-like shards of ice appeared over his palm, “I can handle her.”

“Fine, but I get her next.”

“You know you love my sloppy seconds.”

Andraste could feel the pressure from the man’s weight on her upper thighs as he straddled over her and began unbuttoning her pants. Her pulse elevated until she could feel it throbbing in her neck. An ever-encompassing heat radiated throughout her body as she felt her strength return to her. Her vision became clear, and her wide-open eyes caught a glimpse of the disgusting smirk slathered across her assailant’s face.

“Oh shit,” the man standing nearby exclaimed, “she’s awake now!”

“Not for long,” the attacker said as he raised five shards of pointed icicles at Andraste’s face.

Andraste smiled and shook her head. “You picked the wrong bitch.”

She raised her hand, and fireballs blasted from her palm, melting all of the frozen knives suspended in the air over her head. Her attacker’s eyes widened as he stumbled backward, falling off of her and landing on his butt. Andraste rose to her feet and without uttering a word, she shot a large stream of flames right into his face. The fire quickly engulfed his entire body, and he dashed around the field in circles, flailing his arms wildly as his screams echoed throughout the terrain.

His friend pulled a pistol from his holster. His hands shaking, he pointed the gun at Andraste’s head.

“Look, I’m a healer. I’m not a fighter like him. Just let me go. Please. I’ll go my way; you go yours.”

Andraste just glared at him as he pleaded for his pathetic life.

“Please,” he continued. “I wasn’t going to hurt you.”

“No,” Andraste said, shaking her head. “Of course, you weren’t.”

The man relaxed his arms slightly.

“But you were planning to enjoy his sloppy seconds, weren’t you?”

“No…….I never.”

Before he could finish his sentence, Andraste raised her hand again sending a wave of bright orange flames right into the man’s face, and within a matter of seconds, his entire body disappeared into the fire. Andraste strutted away, listening to the violent screams of the two men set ablaze behind her.
